Sunekos London and Surrey Aesthetics

Filler dissolving

This is done only for hyaluronic acid-based filler with an enzyme called hyaluronidase (aka hyalase). This may be required for a vascular occlusion or if there are lumps, in the event of a reaction (delayed or immediate) or an infection. We will dissolve other clinicians work if necessary, but we would generally advise that you speak with your original clinician where possible, to get the correction from them. This is especially the case where the procedure has not gone to plan, and you are not happy with the result.

Dissolving Fillers Treatment by London and Surrey Aesthetic Clinic

Dermal fillers are a popular way to rejuvenate the face and hands, but sometimes the results are not what patients had hoped for. In these cases, dissolving fillers offer a way to reverse the effects of dermal fillers.

At the London and Surrey Aesthetic clinic in Crystal Palace and West Norwood/Streatham, London, our team offers dissolving fillers to help our clients achieve the desired results.

Reasons for Dissolving Fillers

There are many reasons why patients may choose to dissolve their dermal fillers. Some people may be unhappy with the amount of filler injected or the placement of the injection.

Others may experience side-effects such as swelling, bruising, redness, bumps, tenderness or unevenness.

In some cases, dermal fillers can cause complications like infection, nodules, granulomas or trigger an allergic reaction.

The Dissolving Fillers Process

Firstly, there needs to be some mapping with ultrasound to review where the dermal fillers are located. This will give us an idea of how much hyalase will be required to dissolve the filler. Hyalase is a prescription only medication and therefore it will need to be prescribed when you are assessed and then you will be required to come back in for a patch test to confirm you are not allergic to the product. Provided you are not reacting severely to the product, dissolving will then take place.

The dissolving fillers process involves injecting an enzyme into the area where the dermal filler was originally injected. The enzyme, hyaluronidase, works to break down the filler, allowing the body to absorb it naturally. The process typically takes around 30 minutes, depending on the amount of filler that needs to be dissolved. Some patients may experience some discomfort, swelling or redness at the injection site. In order to minimize the risks and ensure safety, a patch test will be performed.

Types of Fillers that can be Dissolved

At the London and Surrey Aesthetic clinic, our team offers dissolving fillers for a range of dermal fillers, which are hyaluronic acid based.

Results and Risks

Results from dissolving fillers are usually seen within 24 to 48 hours, with full results visible in a week or two. As with any injection, there are some risks and side-effects associated with the treatment, such as swelling, bruising, redness, and tenderness. The risk of complications is minimal, and our team will thoroughly assess each patient’s suitability for the treatment and discuss any questions or concerns they may have.

Downtime and Aftercare

Some patients do experience swelling and redness and this depends on how much hyalase has had to be used and a patient’s individual reaction. There is also a common issue of the hyalase breaking down the natural hyaluronic acid in your tissues. This does regenerate over 2-4 weeks, but it is common to look more deflated initially. This is all part of the dissolving process. This effect is minimised with ultrasound mapping as only specific amounts need to be administered as we have clearly defined where the pockets of filler have been placed and been more precise regarding how much hyalase is required

No heat should be used for 48 hours and that includes drinking hot drinks as well as going into steam rooms or saunas. Heat can increase the risk of bruising and cause more swelling. High intensity exercise should be avoided for the first 48 hours, and alcohol should also be avoided for 24 hours too, as these increase the risk of bruising and of course increases heat. Always use sunscreen after having dissolving treatment and avoid UV light for 48 hours after treatment.

Client Reviews

Aesthetic clinic in Crystal Palace, London
I had a really great experience with this clinic. I knew nothing about skin or what my skincare should have been and Marie was able to complete a really thorough consultation that was individual to my needs. I now have a proper skin routine that is focused on my combo skin and it’s never looked better!

I have had botox and cheek filler with Marie and am super happy with the result. Marie is very thorough and focused on ensuring the results looked natural and enhanced my natural look (i.e) how I looked 10 years ago! She also gave me great skin care advice which has really helped my confidence (and skin).

I've visited Marie for a couple of treatments recently, and would highly recommend her. She is knowledgeable and thorough in the consultation, and seems to know exactly what's needed to sort the areas that I'm not happy with. Marie has really sorted my jowls with filler so naturally, it has taken years off!
