Microneedling Crystal Palace, London
Microneedling uses tiny sterile needles to superficially penetrate the skin, causing a small wound which then stimulates the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Once healed, the skin therefore looks rejuvenated. Some use the term ‘collagen induction therapy’. It is used for a wide variety of skin conditions and issues such as:
- Acne
- Hair loss
- Pigmentation
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Scars
- Stretch marks
- Skin lacking elasticity
- Sun damage

Whilst microneedling, there is also a possibility of using various serums which will penetrate the skin more easily via the tiny wounds left behind. It is generally less expensive than laser and doesn’t involve heat, which in people with darker skin colours with their increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, is safer.
There is some debate whether numbing cream should be used during this procedure. Ultimately, numbing cream can often result in reduced circulation in the skin (local anaesthetic is a vasoconstrictor and therefore blood vessels narrow, reducing circulation). Part of the point of the treatment is to increase blood flow to the area to stimulate the skin to produce more collagen and elastin. Therefore, by restricting blood flow with the numbing cream it has a counterproductive effect. Generally microneedling isn’t very painful and most cope without numbing cream. If you have combined treatment of radiofrequency with microneedling, then this is painful and numbing cream is generally required. We don’t offer this combined treatment.
It takes time to notice a difference with this treatment because the body has to heal. Most need to have a few treatments to see the full effects, in a similar way to skin boosters.
There has been an upsurge in home rollers and needling kits. These do not penetrate as far as the machine and can cause infection if they are not cleaned properly. We can discuss whether these are appropriate for you during your consultation.

Microneedling Treatment London
At London and Surrey Aesthetics, we offer expert microneedling treatments to help you achieve your best skin yet. Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with tiny needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. These injuries trigger the body’s natural healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin, which are essential for maintaining healthy, youthful facial skin. Our microneedling treatments are performed by our experienced and highly-trained aesthetic clinicians, using state-of-the-art equipment and technology to ensure the best possible results.
Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling offers a wide range of benefits for the skin, making it a popular treatment option for many patients. Some of the benefits of microneedling include:
Improved skin appearance: Microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, dull and sun damaged skin along with other skin imperfections, leaving your skin smoother and more radiant.
Reduced scarring: Microneedling can be an effective treatment for reducing the appearance of scars, including those caused by acne, injury, or surgery.
Reduction in pigmentation: Microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation, leaving your skin more even-toned and glowing.
Reduction in acne: Microneedling can improve he appearance of acne and the redness associated with acne.
Hair loss: Microneedling can improve blood flow to the scalp and therefore stimulate new hair growth.
At London and Surrey Aesthetics, we are committed to helping our patients achieve their best skin yet.

The Microneedling Procedure
During the treatment, a device with tiny needles is used to create micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing response, promoting the production of collagen and elastin.
Before the treatment, your aesthetic clinician will thoroughly cleanse your skin to ensure the risk of infection is kept to a minimum. There is generally no requirement for local anaesthetic as the procedure is not painful. Any skin improving serums applied to the skin are sterile along with the needles. The microneedle device will then be moved across your skin, creating micro-injuries in the targeted area.
The treatment typically takes around 30-45 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area.
After the treatment, your skin may appear red and slightly swollen, similar to a sunburn. This is a normal response to the micro-injuries created by the treatment and should subside within a few hours to a few days. It is possible that there could be bruising in susceptible people, but again this reduces quickly in most cases. Occasionally the skin may peel or flake whilst it is healing. For anyone who is prone to keloid scars, this treatment may not be suitable.
Results and Aftercare
Many patients begin to see results from their microneedling treatment within a few weeks of the treatment, with continued improvement over time as the body produces more collagen and elastin.
Skin is more sensitive to the sun following this treatment and therefore it is important to wear sunscreen at all times, and keep reapplying it every 2 hours. Hyperpigmentation (the over production of pigment) may occur if you don’t do this. It is important to avoid swimming, saunas and steam rooms or any heat following your treatment. Any excessive exercise and alcohol for the fist 24 hours, may increase redness and bruising.
Results can include smoother, more radiant skin, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, and improved skin texture, toning, lifting and plumping of the skin.
To maintain the benefits of microneedling over the long term, it is important to follow proper skincare instructions. This includes avoiding sun exposure, using gentle skincare products, and avoiding harsh chemicals or exfoliants that can irritate the skin.
