Frown muscles
This area is made up of several muscles including the procerus and corrugator muscles. Many people complain of deep lines here or ‘11s’ which makes them look stressed or angry when static (there at rest). This can impact on how other people interact with them and affect confidence or self-esteem. If the lines in this area are deep and been there for some time, it will take several sessions to smooth these out and they may never completely go. Significant improvements can be made, however.
Crows feet
The muscle around the eye is called orbicularis oculi and is responsible for creating the lines seen at the corners of the eye. If this muscle is treated, it doesn’t mean you can’t smile, as this involves different muscles.
For some people who have poor drainage of lymphatic fluid around the eye area, paralysing the orbicularis oculi, can lead to increased puffiness around the eyes and therefore this may not be the right treatment for you. This can be discussed in your consultation and alternatives used such as skin boosters.
Forehead
The forehead is a key area of concern for people. However, it is important that care is taken when treating this area due to the risk of dropping the brow or in some cases causing a so called ‘Spock’ brow. The muscles in the forehead lift the eyebrows. Due to the risk of dropping the brow it is important not to treat the forehead muscles too low down. This can mean that for those with wrinkles low down in the forehead, these cannot be treated with toxin. For others, their skin is continuous from the forehead into the eye lids. This can result in people having to raise their eyebrows all the time to see, or to put on eye shadow for example. In these people, treating the forehead may not be a good idea, or if it is treated, a very low dose and keeping high up in the forehead is preferable. Treating the forehead in this person, will normally result in an even heavier brow and most people don’t like this effect.
The forehead muscles and glabella muscles work together to position the eyebrows, it is not a generally a good idea to treat the forehead in isolation therefore, so we normally treat it with the glabella gives the best outcome.
